Ep3 - An adventure day
After two weeks of unloading, fumigating, and cleaning our new boat, we're ready for an adventure. Join us as we explore down river toward Rio Dulce Canyon and beyond.
Two weeks doesn't seem like a long time until you're learning just how much you can sweat even though you're not exerting yourself. The past two weeks have taught us a couple things we weren't expecting: 1. People from the Pacific Northwest aren't engineered for tropical heat and humidity. 2. In this climate everything takes much longer because everyone has to move slower. We're learning to adapt with schedules (mornings are much better than evenings!) and taking breaks during the heat of the day to enjoy some aircon and get our body core temperatures down toward something reasonable. Oh, and I should mention bugs - it's like nothing we've ever seen - It's impossible to escape them so we're looking for a supplier to provide some serious bug repellent spray in 190 liter barrels!
The boat is coming along nicely and, even though she's not reassembled, she's cleaned out and bugs are under control. We're looking forward to the local cruiser's swap meet today where we'll have the opportunity to re-home a bunch of stuff from the boat that we don't need/want. It feels great to keep useful stuff out of landfills and get it into the hands of people who can benefit.
Next week we'll be back on the boat and getting serious about inventory management, stowing, and figuring out systems.
